The Havanese...
Havanese are non-shedding, hypoallergenic dogs that are great with children.
A small (8 to 14 pound), sweet-natured dog with immense charm, Havanese
stand between
9.5 to 10.5 inches at the shoulder, slightly longer than tall, and covered
with profuse long, silky, wavy hair, with a plumed tail carried loosely
curled over his rump.
R'Gang Havanese are sturdy little dogs that can keep up with you in a wide
variety of activities. Our adult dogs can easily do a couple of miles a day
or go hiking with the "big
dogs".
While they love to go for walks and outings, their exercise requirements can
also be met in the average size yard. Thriving on close companionship, Havanese
are often best with a buddy. If you plan to leave your dog alone for
any length of time, consider adopting more than one.
Havanese
have traditionally been bred to be a close companion, indoor watchdog, and
child's playmate. His presentation
in the show ring should reflect his physical excellence but never so elaborately
groomed as to inhibit a romp in the leaves. His character and demeanor is
playful rather than decorative.
This is a highly intelligent breed that competes well in agility
and obedience fields. At the same time, Havanese are exceptionally responsive
to their family, intuitive when it comes to reading moods, and do best when
placed into considerate, loving homes.
Havanese are not hyperactive or "yappy" at
all, being more of the laid-back type, but also quick to respond. They'll enthusiastically
rise to the occasion when you
are up for a little rowdy play. These dogs so effortlessly demonstrate a sense
of joy and sweetness that you will be delighted to have a Havanese

Havanese were developed uniquely in Cuba and the name relates to the city
of Havana. It was originally called "The Havana Silk Dog."
The AKC accepted the Havanese as of January 1999 into the Toy Group.
Dating back to the late 15th Century, the Havanese
has evolved from the pampered lap-dog of the Cuban aristocracy
into what he is today - the quintessential family pet!
